In a bid to bolster Nigeria’s digital economy and address youth unemployment, the National Agency for Science and Engineering Infrastructure (NASENI) and the National Institute for Policy and Strategic Studies (NIPSS) in Kuru, Plateau State, have initiated collaboration efforts.

Mr. Khalil Suleiman Halilu, the Executive Vice Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of NASENI, made this announcement during the welcoming of participants from the Senior Executive Course (SEC) 46 of NIPSS. They were visiting the agency as part of a Strategic Institution Study Tour this week in Abuja.

Halilu expressed his delight at NASENI’s inclusion among the federal government agencies identified to empower Nigerian youths and foster job creation while promoting self-reliance in manufacturing and the digital economy.

He emphasized the importance of strengthening stakeholders’ capacity to access, adopt, and scale up technologies, underscoring the necessity of supportive offline conditions such as conducive policy environments, access to finance, appropriate incentives, and innovation capacities.

Prof. Ayo Omotayo, the Director-General of NIPSS, who led the delegation, highlighted the potential for empowering Nigerian youths through the translation of NASENI innovations into finished products. He emphasized the need for enhanced collaboration between the two organizations to achieve this objective.

Omotayo mentioned that various groups from NIPSS had been dispatched to different agencies to study the development of policies for national development. The group visiting NASENI is tasked with conducting an in-depth study on how the Agency’s technological innovations can contribute to job creation for Nigerian youths.

He stressed the vital role of NASENI across various sectors, particularly in manufacturing industries, asserting that effective job creation and youth empowerment hinge on the successful transfer of NASENI’s innovations.

The participants of Course 46 from NIPSS expressed their keen interest in understanding NASENI’s vision, mission, and roles, with a focus on translating these into tangible job opportunities for youths within the digital economy.
