Professor Muhammed Bello Abubakar has resumed office as the new Managing Director/Chief Executive of Galaxy Backbone (GBB). He replaces Mr. Yusuf Kazaure who has been at the helm of affairs at Galaxy Backbone for the last five years. President Muhammed Buhari recently appointed a new boss for the boss for the government connectivity infrastructure company as part of moves to strengthen the vision for a digital Nigeria being managed by the Ministry Of Communications & Digital Economy which has oversight function over GBB.
GBB is the digital infrastructure and shared services provider of the federal government charged with the responsibility to develop and implement a national network and data infrastructure platform for public and private institutions. Though 100% owned by government and an agency under the supervision of the Federal Ministry of Communications and Digital Technology, GBB operates as a limited liability company determined to drive world class professionalism in its approach to delivering Information Technology and digital services to its customers.
In his address to the media and staff of GBB, Professor Abubakar reiterated the vision of the Minister of Communications and Digital Economy, Dr. Isa Ibrahim Pantami. He said ‘Digital Economy is the new revolution. I am committed to ensuring that as MD of Galaxy Backbone, I help in achieving the eight (8) pillars of creating a digital economy as developed by the Honourable Minister’.
The new Managing Director further explained that seven out of the 8 pillars rests on digital infrastructure, an area where Galaxy Backbone plays a crucial role. He thanked the outgoing Managing Director, Mr. Yusuf Kazaure for the great effort he has made in laying a solid structure for the company and for the achievements the organization has attained during the period of his leadership.
In his statement, Mr. Kazaure thanked the Staff of GBB, all internal and external stakeholders for their support and encouraged everyone to give the new Managing Director all the support and cooperation he requires to move the organisation and the entire Digital Economy journey of the nation forward.
GBB is currently laying fibre optic cables across the country to build an effective national network through its National Information & Communications Technology Infrastructure Backbone (NICTIB) project. The project will see GBB connect almost all the 36 states of the federation and advance the national broadband plan of the nation. It is also driving a fundamental part of the Digital Infrastructure journey with the operation of the Tier III certified datacenter at the National Shared Services Center being run by the organisation.
Prof. Abubakar assured that he is committed to working with the staff at GBB in to ensuring that the full potentials of Galaxy Backbone is attained.
