MTN and ipNX are the kings of the market in the latest Speedtest Connectivity Report by OOKLA. The data collection period covers July – December 2024.

MTN led the mobile market across key performance metrics

MTN was the fastest mobile provider in Nigeria during 2H 2024, across all technologies combined, and also specifically for 5G. It recorded a median 5G download speed of 231.39 Mbps, and an upload speed of 17.35 Mbps.

MTN and ipNX offered the best gaming experiences

MTN offered the best 5G gaming experience in Nigeria during 2H 2024, while ipNX recorded the best gaming experience among ISPs.

ipNX: Best Fixed Network

Overall Connectivity Score combines key metrics to evaluate the overall user experience that ISPs provide. It includes Speed Score, as well as indicators for web browsing performance, and Video Streaming Score. ipNX had the Best Fixed Network among ISPs in Nigeria during this period, based on Speedtest Intelligence® data, with an Overall Connectivity Score of 55.94.

Most Consistent ISP

ipNX also recorded the highest network Consistency in Nigeria, with 58.2% of its samples meeting or exceeding the threshold of 25 Mbps download and 3 Mbps upload throughput.

Gaming Experience

In gaming, ipNX provided the best ISP gaming experience in Nigeria, with a Game Score of 70.69.

Lagos and Port Harcourt were the top performing cities in Nigeria

Among the most populous cities in Nigeria, Lagos recorded the fastest median mobile download speed of 40.26 Mbps, while Port Harcourt outpaced the other cities to record the fastest median fixed download speed, with 24.04 Mbps.

City Performance: Port Harcourt leads

Port Harcourt had the fastest median fixed download speed among Nigeria’s most populous cities, recording 24.04 Mbps. Lagos was second, followed by Kano in third. At the other end of the scale, Benin City had the slowest median fixed download speed at 10.22 Mbps, followed by Ibadan and Kano.
