A joint venture involving Medallion Communications Limited, Etix Everywhere, Ngoya and Africa Investment Group (AIG) is expected to deliver the first West Africa’s carrier and vendor neutral Tier IV data centre in Accra, Ghana. The multi-tenant data center (MTDC) with Tier certification from the Uptime Institute will guarantee customers access to robust infrastructure, capacity, and processes to provide optimum services in Ghana and across the region.
Commercial services are expected to begin from July 2019 in Ghana, according to CEO of Lagos based Medallion Communications Ltd, Ike Nnamani, in a short chat with IT Edge News.
“We are building a global network of colocation data centers so that our customers get access to the best infrastructure wherever it is needed. The boom in internet access on the African continent will lead to an increasing demand for carrier neutral data centers. This is the reason why we are delivering a network of interconnected data centers providing a Pan African platform for the delivery of digital services,” said ,” one senior official of Etix Everywhere a company’s statement.
The new facility in Accra will be the second data center of Etix Everywhere located on the African continent, after Etix Casablanca #1. Ghana is a vibrant West African economy which is well supplied with submarine cables, mobile network operators and ISPs and strategically situated to provide a stepping stone into the region.
Etix Everywhere is headquartered in Luxembourg and founded in 2012, the company builds turnkey projects for large customers and also develops its own colocation data center network in which housing services are provided.
The carrier and vendor neutral Tier IV data center in Accra is constructed under a strategic partnership between Etix Everywhere, Ngoya, and AIG, the fully ready for service datacenter will be managed commercially by AIG and Medallion while the technical operations will be managed by Etix Everywhere.
Medallion, which operates the most connected datacenter in the West African sub-region with clients that include all major service providers across the region, will bring its expertise to bear on clients get the best value for the services they will access at the Accra’s datacenter.
The solar powered datacenter will have the best energy-supply availability in the sub-region having power availability of 99.99682%, with datacenter specifications including: three independent generators, three independent UPS, three independent switchboard, three independent cooling systems, world class access control and intrusion detection system, according to CEO of AIG, Dr Samuel Ankrah while taking anchor clients on a tour of the datacenter in Accra.
The carrier neutral datacenter provides full transmission redundancies with fiber connections from four different routes including multiple aerial and underground fibers from multiple metro and long distance providers. The site is concurrently maintainable.
