Governor Seyi Makinde of Oyo State has, this week, in Ibadan commissioned security and traffic management infrastructures. This include an expanded coverage of the state’s Closed-Circuit Television (CCTV) surveillance.
The new CCTV coverage now stretches to the two toll-gate areas, including the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway and the Asejiri end of the Ibadan-Ife Expressway.
The project will enhance the capacity of the State Crime Alert Platform.
The state government said part of its priorities is to leverage technology to improve security and manage traffic more efficiently.
The CCTV project was started by the immediate past administration, but only covered major crime prone areas which include, Beere, Molete, Oke-Ado, Challenge, Iwo Road, Agodi-Gate, Ojoo, Mokola, Mapo and Sango.
In addition, a telecommunications mast to enhance signal and flow of communication from the cameras and control room was also installed. The new mast would save the government about N3.5million monthly spent on connecting the cameras to the control room via externally sourced internet services.
