MainOne, an Equinix company, plans to rollout out AfriConnect service offering and bring new content providers to West Africa, the company announced this week in Lagos at a media interaction.
Equinix, Inc. (Nasdaq: EQIX), the world’s digital infrastructure company™, earlier this year acquired the West African data center and connectivity solutions provider MainOne for US$320M, marking the beginning of its expansion into the African continent.

MainOne told its media audience it will be carrying out extension of Equinix Fabric to Lagos which will enable the interconnection of Lagos Data Centres with Equinix Data Centres globally.
Also it announced partnership with AMSIX to deploy leading global internet exchange (IXP) presence in Lagos which will increase local peering of traffic in Nigeria and up the game in Nigeria’s IXP market.
But the company has more in its portfolio of future plans. According to the duo of General Counsel, Abayomi Adebanjo and General Manager, Enterprises & Regional Business, Nigeria, Olubunmi Ogun, who led the interaction, part of MainOne’s expansion plans will see it enhance its rack capacity across its data centres in Lagos; deliver more power, up to 10MW capacity by 2024, to its Lekki Data Centre campus; and expansion of its Saka Tinubu Hub to provide full complement of Equinix Interconnection services by 2024.
The company recently partnered with the Lagos Free Zone to deliver fibre optic connectivity and data centre services at the Lagos Free Zone in what should ramp up affordable access for thousands of enterprises opening shop in that part of Lagos.
