Researchers from Ladoke Akintola University of Technology (LAUTECH) and Federal University of Technology (FUT), Minna showcased their NASENI-funded research and development products at the Technology Orientation Centre, NASENI headquarters in Abuja. The event, attended by the agency’s top management and research directors, marked the culmination of a collaborative effort initiated in April 2023 when NASENI signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with three professors from the universities.

Professor Abass Alade from LAUTECH’s Department of Chemical Engineering presented his research on “Treatment of Aquaculture Waste Water Using Waste Banana and Plantain Stem Juice Composite Through Integrated Filtracoagulation Cascade System.” Associate Professor Jimoh Oladejo Tijani from FUT Minna’s Department of Chemistry showcased his work on the “Development of Multi-walled Carbon Nanotubes-Iron Tungstate Composite for Industrial Wastewater Purification.” Dr. Sanusi Kolawole from LAUTECH’s Department of Pure and Applied Physics demonstrated his project on the “Development of Nano-coating Green Urea Fertilizer for Agricultural Production Enhancement.”

The Executive Vice Chairman/Chief Executive of NASENI, Mr. Khalil Suleiman Halilu, represented by Research Director Dr. Samuel O. Olusunle, commended the researchers for their effective use of funds in publishing their works and developing these innovative products.

Event underscores collaboration between academic institutions and government agencies

Professor Abass Alade, speaking on behalf of his colleagues, expressed gratitude for the opportunity, highlighting the significant achievements of the projects, such as fostering sustainable agency-academia linkages, developing facilities through equipment and resource acquisition, and advancing human resource development for both undergraduate and postgraduate students involved in the research.

These presentations underscore the critical role of collaboration between academic institutions and government agencies in driving technological advancements and addressing societal challenges through innovative research.

Professor Alade urged NASENI to provide additional funding to mass-produce and commercialize the showcased products through a collaborative effort involving NASENI, academic institutions, and private sector operators.

NASENI Research Director, Dr. Patrick Okwu, and Prof. Abdulmalik Onuwe, another NASENI Research Director, expressed enthusiasm for the NASENI-university collaboration and stressed the importance of expanding research outcomes to benefit the manufacturing sector.
