In a bid to assess the awareness level and acceptance of its flagship health insurance initiative, the Ilera-Eko Lagos State Health Scheme (LSHS), the Lagos State Health Management Agency (LASHMA) has embarked on a comprehensive perception survey across the state.

Under the scheme, LSHS offers access to quality health care services within the Ilera-Eko partner hospitals to ensure equitable distribution of healthcare costs; protects enrollees from the financial hardship of huge medical bills; and maintain high standard of healthcare delivery services.

As at December 2023, the scheme had recorded about 923, 000 enrolments with about 448 healthcare facilities across the state registered as health providers.

The survey, being carried out by Pinnacle Global Business Services Limited, aims to gauge the awareness and acceptance of LSHS among Lagos State residents, with a focus on markets, organized professional associations, and workers in the informal sector. The exercise will cover all zones and local government councils across the state.

The Lagos State Health Scheme, backed by law, seeks to provide affordable healthcare to the teeming population of Lagos State residents, with the ultimate goal of achieving universal health coverage.

Pinnacle through the survey is expected to deliver outcomes that include identification of areas of high and low awareness of LSHS; understanding of the perceived benefits and challenges of the scheme; and assessment of the level of acceptance and willingness to enroll in the scheme.

Other expected outcomes are identification of key influencers and opinion leaders in the target groups; and development of targeted strategies to improve awareness, acceptance, and enrollment in LSHS

The survey’s findings will inform LASHMA’s strategy to improve the scheme’s visibility, accessibility, and uptake, ultimately ensuring that Lagos State residents have access to quality and affordable healthcare under the Ilera-Eko scheme.

By embarking on this perception survey, LASHMA is demonstrating its commitment to engaging with the public and improving the healthcare system in Lagos State. The agency’s efforts are expected to contribute significantly to the achievement of universal health coverage in the state, said a senior official of LASHMA.
