Dr. Hamzat expressed the state’s enthusiasm for the event during a meeting with Trixie LohMirmand, Chief Executive Officer of Kaoun International, and her team at the ongoing GITEX Global 2024 in Dubai. He noted that Lagos, renowned as a hub for tech and innovation in Africa, would provide an ideal setting for the global tech community’s first GITEX in Nigeria.

Nigeria experiencing a surge in tech talent and innovation

The Deputy Governor emphasized that the timing for the event is ideal.  Nigeria was experiencing a surge in tech talent and innovation. “There couldn’t be a better time for the tech world to make their presence felt in Africa, especially in Nigeria,” Dr. Hamzat said. He highlighted Lagos’ expanding technology ecosystem. According to him, the Babajide Sanwo-Olu administration is committed to leveraging technology to drive development across the state.

Dr. Hamzat pointed to the success of the “Art of Technology (AOT)” initiative in Lagos, now in its fifth year, which has identified and supported numerous young entrepreneurs in the IT sector. “Bringing GITEX to Lagos will not only showcase the incredible talent we have but also demonstrate to the world what’s possible in Nigeria,” he remarked.

GITEX NIGERIA 2025 aims to create a dynamic platform for startups, innovators, and tech enthusiasts from across Africa. The event will facilitate opportunities for AI experts, young talents, and the tech community to display their ideas and contribute to propelling Nigeria’s digital economy forward.

The road to GITEX NIGERIA
