Lagos State, Nigeria’s commercial capital and home of more than 22 million people, is exploring expansive opportunities for investment as the 43rd edition of GITEX Global, the world’s largest tech and startup show. begins today.

The five-day event, beginning 16 to 20 October at the Dubai World Trade Centre, is hosting over 6,000 exhibitors and 180,000 tech executives from about 180 countries. The event is featuring some of the biggest names in the globe including the likes of Microsoft, Oracle, and Meta amongst others. GITEX GLOBAL is hosting series of conferences across industry verticals and will feature more than 1,400 speakers through out the five days of the event.
Lagos is led by the Deputy Governor, Obafemi Hamzat. The delegation also includes the Commissioner for Innovation, Science and Technology, Olatunbosun Alake. The state is strengthening its presence around the Lagos Ready For Business Pavilion and the Lagos State Startup Pavilion where it is promoting a number of startups domiciled in Lagos.
As GITEX GLOBAL, Dubai is hosting Big Techs, technology creators, investors, enthusiasts and startups, Lagos hopes to build “partnerships, explore new investment opportunities within the framework of the digital economy and help to resound the strong message of President Bola Tinubu that Nigeria is opening up to businesses,” said a senior official of the state in Dubai.
The global startup show, Expand North Star, officially opened yesterday October 15 to close October 18 at the new Dubai Harbour venue and is featuring more than 1,800 startups.
Already, about 11 Nigerian startups have crossed the early stage of the Supernova led by startups from Lagos State, indicating a more robust showing for the Nigerian startup community.
While DWTC prepares to host more than 6,000 exhibitors, Expand North Star, the startup tech event hosted by the Dubai Chamber of Digital Economy, will kick off its edition from October 15-18 at the Dubai Harbour venue, featuring 1,800 startups from over 100 countries.
Gitex Global “comprises 10 co-located shows: Gitex Global, Ai Everything, Gitex Impact, Future Urbanism, Global Devslam, Superbridge Summit Dubai, Expand North Star, Fintech Surge, Future Blockchain Summit, and Marketing Mania.
“The show covers about 41 exhibition halls, spanning 2.7 million square feet of exhibition space – a 35 per cent increase over the previous year, hosting leading technology giants and startups specialising in artificial intelligence, cybersecurity, mobility, sustainable tech and more,” reports the Gulf Business Times.
According to Dubai World Trade Centre, organisers of the event, “GITEX GLOBAL brings together the world’s most innovative enterprises and best minds to elevate business, economy, society and culture.”
