The Lagos State Police Public Relations Officer, Benjamin Hundeyin, confirmed that the homicide section of the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) in Yaba is handling the case to determine the exact details of the alleged suicide, which occurred on June 25. Imudia is said to have jumped from the balcony of his home.
Imudia, 45, was at home when he reached for his phone and contacted his brother in the United States, giving him instructions on how to distribute his wealth. He also called his young daughter, assuring her that he would always be there for her.
After making these calls, Imudia, who was the CEO of D.light, a leading innovator in residential solar energy solutions at the time of his death, reportedly went to his apartment balcony on Tuesday, June 25, 2024, and jumped. The impact of his fall was fatal.
The reasons behind Imudia’s decision to take his own life remain unclear. He was originally from the Ika South Local Government Area of Delta State. Previously married to the mother of his young daughter, the marriage ended due to “irreconcilable differences.”
Nick Imudia was a respected business executive and technology leader. Born on April 28, 1979, in Delta State, he earned a Bachelor of Engineering degree in Industrial Management from the Mikkeli Institute of Technology in Finland (1994-1997). He went on to obtain a Master of Engineering degree in Oil and Gas Technology from Aalborg University in 2000 and later, a Master’s in Business Administration in International Business Management from Haaga-Helia University of Applied Sciences in 2012.
The investigation by the Lagos State Police aims to shed light on the tragic events that led to Imudia’s death, as his family, friends, and colleagues mourn the loss of a prominent figure in the business and technology sectors.
