The Kaduna State Government has formalised a partnership with Huawei Technologies Nigeria Limited to launch the Kaduna Smart City Project, aimed at transforming the state into a safer, more efficient, and technology-driven hub. The Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was signed at Huawei’s Beijing office, witnessed by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, along with Nigerian governors, ministers, and senior officials during his recent official visit to China.

Governor Uba Sani highlighted that the Smart City Project is set to enhance security, improve the efficiency and transparency of public services, and attract investment and talent to the state. The initiative is part of Kaduna’s broader strategy to become an economic and technological hub in northern Nigeria.

Huawei will act as the strategic partner, delivering comprehensive solutions in areas such as unified command, intelligent traffic systems, enhanced security, smart education, e-government, healthcare, ICT talent development, renewable energy, and public transportation. A joint committee will be established to oversee the project’s implementation, funding, and technological deployment, ensuring sustainability and value for Kaduna’s citizens.

Governor Sani also noted the significance of digital technology in economic growth and mentioned existing state initiatives like the Kaduna Technology City and the recently launched Digital Innovation and Entrepreneurship Centre. The state’s “Bridging the Last Mile Initiative 2024–2027” will further support digital inclusion, empowering residents to leverage technology for their businesses and livelihoods.

He expressed gratitude to Huawei Technologies for their partnership, emphasizing that the project will catalyze a new era of security, innovation, and prosperity for Kaduna State.
