The Director-General of the Nigerian Automotive Development and Design Council (NADDC), Jelani Aliyu is to herald theme on convergence and future of the Nigerian auto industry at the 9th West Africa Convergence Conference (WACC 2017) holding in Lagos, November 29th at the Sheraton Hotel and Towers. Jelani will be leading conversation at the session on “Convergence, Automobile Innovation & the Future of Cars”.
Panelists will consider the auto industry from interrogations that include: “Is the future where industries converge already here? Are we getting there? Is Nigeria ready for Smart integrated technology, innovation, and a sustainable lifestyle? How is the convergence of automotive and tech creating a new ecosystem? As cars, high-tech and electronics converge – Where is the auto industry in Nigeria headed? Any possibility for leapfrogging and is there a policy thrust on this? Are we gearing for Convergence and the Disruptive trends that will transform the auto industry?

Aliyu, himself a designer and world renown inventor of the Chevy Volt (the Chevrolet Volt is a plug-in hybrid car manufactured by General Motors), was appointed this May 2017 to lead the NADDC by President Muhammadu Buhari to re-set Nigeria’s auto industry.
Participants will also have the opportunity to engage the NADDC’s boss on his blueprint for Nigeria’s automobile industry.
Other sessions for the Conference include ‘Convergence and the Future of Work’, sponsored by Medallion Limited, ICS Limited, and PFS Limited ‘The InventSpace’ which is focusing on Technology Convergence and the Startup Ecosystem and being sponsored by the NITDA, NIGCOMSAT and Galaxy Backbone; ‘Convergence, Governance and Citizens Engagement,’ sponsored by Qitech Technologies Limited and Smart Web and ‘Convergence, Disrupters, and Regulation’, sponsored by the National Information Technology Development Agency (NITDA).

As part of activities lined up for the Conference, WACC 2017 will also feature the Convergence Tech Leadership Recognition awards, targeting the recognition of industry leaders helping to promote awareness, industry, and policy in the converged space.
