Come April 8 2014, businesses still operating on the Window XP and Office 2003 stand a big risk as Microsoft will no longer give security support to these operating systems. The software giant therefore advises their customers to move to the Windows 8 and Office 2013 which they described as the solution for today with improved security and enhanced productivity.

The Windows XP was once the most deployed operating system, and served the needs of businesses from 2001 when it was launched. But just like everything, 12 years down the line technology has evolved, the trend has changed. People want to do more on the go, they want change that is critical to their business, and that can also align with new technology.

Businesses are feeling the heat to stay up to date with an increasing need to protect their data and manage all their devices while ensuring security and compliance. Windows 8 is Microsoft’s latest operating system for modern businesses, building on Windows 7 fundamentals such as speed, reliability and security while creating a modern platform designed for new generation of hardware from tablets and innovative touch devices to traditional desktops and laptops

AwawuOlumide-Sojinrin, Acting Country Manager, Microsoft Nigeria while briefing media men why Microsoft is ending support for the Windows XP and Office 2003, explained that Microsoft is proactive in communicating changes that are critical and important to its customers. “Migration is taken for granted until it is experienced. It is therefore wise for customers and partners to move with the changing technology trend by migrating to the Windows 8 and Office 2013 platform within the 8 months period,” she added.
