gloLeading telecoms company, Globacom, has been named the Most Socially Responsible Company by the Nigerian Capital Development Fund (NCDF).The award was conferred on the company at the National Economic Development Awards (NACODA 2010) held by NCDF at Transcorp Hilton Hotel recently.

Organizers of the award said Globacom was honored because of its contributions to social, political and economic development of the country. They explained that “the awards honour individuals and establishments that have contributed significantly to social, political and economic development of the country, thereby encouraging leaders to take part in improving efficiency and effectiveness of economic systems.”

“Corporate Social Responsibility is essentially about doing good and doing well. The award is for companies that have integrated social values and mission within business decision-making process to achieve positive and sustainable outcomes towards the business, environment and community at large. Globacom has over the years shown that it has this responsibility to give back to society,” NCDF said.

The Fund had in a letter conveying the award signed by its chairman, HRM Oba Lamidi Olayiwola Adeyemi III, explained that the choice of Globacom for the award was arrived at after collating entries received from public and private sector respondents.

Oba Adeyemi III noted Globacom’s commitment to developing innovative products and poverty-reduction schemes that have helped in promoting social and economic development of less privileged Nigerians over the years.

“We also identify with your series of social, economic and political responsibility programmes that have positively touched the lives of the entire Nigerians,” the Oba stated.

The Nigerian Capital Development Fund was set up champion the cause of micro and rural entrepreneurs, with a shift from the supply-led approach to a demand-driven strategy.

It collaborates with organizations and developmental projects in an effort to build capacity in both public and private sectors and contribute to the achievement of the Millennium Development Goals and the Nigeria Vision 20-2020.
