Interswitch is set to launch the much-anticipated sixth edition of InterswitchSPAK.  The initiative is a flagship Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) and national science competition. The leading African payments and digital commerce company uses InterswitchSPAK to celebrate Nigeria’s top young scientific talents. It will premiere on Sunday, October 20, 2024, reaffirming Interswitch’s commitment to advancing educational excellence. Most importantly, it affirms its commitment to empowering Africa’s youth through Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM).

The competition will feature 81 exceptional students, carefully selected from over 16,000 registrants across Nigeria. They will all compete for prestigious prizes. Each episode will offer suspense-filled moments as viewers watch these brilliant young minds navigate challenging science questions and tasks. All aiming for the grand prize.

Broadcast Details

InterswitchSPAK 6.0 will air every Sunday at 5:30 p.m. on AIT network.  Its 6:00 p.m. on DSTV Africa Magic Family Channel 154, with repeat broadcasts on Wednesdays at 1:00 p.m. Each episode promises to deliver excitement and valuable insights. Viewers will experience the showcasing of skills and dedication of Nigeria’s future scientists and innovators.

Empowering Nigeria’s Youth Through STEM

Speaking about the competition, Cherry Eromosele, EVP, Group Marketing and Communications at Interswitch, emphasized that InterswitchSPAK plays a crucial role in the company’s broader vision to empower Africa’s youth by fostering a passion for STEM subjects.

“Through this initiative, we are building a skilled workforce capable of addressing Africa’s challenges through innovation and technology. We are proud to continue our mission of promoting educational excellence by providing a platform for exceptional young minds to showcase their talents. InterswitchSPAK inspires the next generation of scientists, technologists, engineers, and mathematicians who will drive Africa’s progress,” Eromosele stated.

Prizes and Incentives for Students and Educators

This year’s competition offers a total prize pool of N30 million. The first-place winner will receive a N15 million scholarship spread over five years, along with a laptop and monthly stipends. The runner-up will be awarded N10 million over three years and a laptop, while the third-place winner will take home N5 million for one year.

Participants who rank 4th to 9th will also receive cash rewards, and the top 18 semi-finalists will be recognized for their exceptional performance with additional prizes. In recognition of the significant role educators play, 27 teachers who prepared students for the competition will be awarded cash prizes for their contributions to building the future of STEM in Nigeria.

As part of its efforts to promote higher education, Interswitch has also provided free JAMB e-PINS to the top 200 preliminary qualifiers, encouraging these outstanding students to pursue further education in STEM fields.
