“There has been subtle and overt jostling for jobs in ministries that include Internal Affairs, Justice, Petroleum Resources, Communications and Digital Economy, and Finance.”

Intense lobbying has begun for appointments in the newly elected government of the All Progressives Congress (APC) after the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) declared Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu winner of Nigeria’s Presidential Election of February 25, 2023.

Several overtures have been made to President-elect Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu by some serving ministers and heads of federal ministries, departments and agencies (MDAs), hoping to be reappointed as ministers or retained as heads of MDAs, IT Edge News learnt this week in Abuja.

“There have been overtures by some currently serving ministers and some director generals, CEOs in many federal agencies either directly or through their overlords, party chieftains.

“But Asiwaju has made it clear that he would prefer appointments and a cabinet that is equitable and reflects the country’s diversity to shore up confidence and nationwide acceptance of his government,” said someone in Tinubu’s inner circle.

He added: “There has been subtle and overt jostling for jobs in ministries that include Internal Affairs, Justice, Petroleum Resources, Communications and Digital Economy, and Finance. There have also been some delegations appealing to Asiwaju to retain some heads of agencies.

“Those seeking reappointment or tenure renewal are unlikely to get their aspirations fulfilled. Asiwaju wants to build his own team that he can hold accountable on his own terms.

“Besides, a lot of people genuinely worked for this ticket and are either competent on their own or have competent people to manage different offices, They cannot be left just like that in the cold.

“You can take this to the bank. The consensus is that there will be majorly new faces to get the government going on a fresh note”
