Hosted by the International Telecommunication Union (ITU), this major event focuses on how ITU standards foster cost-effective, interoperable advancements at a global scale, providing the foundation for new industries to thrive while enabling established sectors to evolve. Organized every four years, WTSA is the key governing conference overseeing ITU’s standardization work.

“Standards are at the forefront of global governance discussions,” said Doreen Bogdan-Martin, ITU Secretary-General. “WTSA-24 will offer a platform for nations to promote digital inclusion and trust in technologies like artificial intelligence, the metaverse, and quantum information systems—helping shape the future we want.”

WTSA-24 will mark the first time the assembly is held in Asia. A concurrent Digital Innovation Festival will showcase cutting-edge technologies from India and around the world, solidifying India’s role as a global tech hub.

Key discussions at WTSA-24 will shape ITU’s strategy and standardization initiatives, appoint leadership teams, and explore how innovations such as AI and secure digital finance can drive sustainable development. Other key events include a Robotics for Good Youth Challenge and AI for Good Impact India, which highlight India’s focus on tech for sustainable development.

The conference will also coincide with World Standards Day on 14 October, which will kick off the ITU Global Standards Symposium (GSS-24). This high-level gathering will explore emerging trends in AI, smart cities, and secure digital transformation, further underlining WTSA-24’s role in shaping the global technology landscape.

With over 193 member states and 1,000 private-sector participants, universities, and organizations, WTSA-24 will forge new standards that empower future innovations, driving global cooperation for a connected, resilient, and sustainable digital future.
