Transforming Nigeria’s Digital Landscape
Prof. Ibrahim A. Adeyanju, Managing Director/CEO of Galaxy Backbone, emphasised importance of this development in bridging the digital divide.
“The expansion of our fibre optic network to Lagos, Ibadan, and Ilorin is a significant step forward in our mission to bridge the digital divide and position Nigeria as a leader in the global digital economy,” Prof. Adeyanju said.
“This advanced infrastructure empowers us to deliver innovative, customer-centric solutions that serve the needs of both the public and private sectors.”
Nationwide Connectivity Milestone
With its optical fibre backbone now spanning over 5,000 kilometers and connecting 27 state capitals, GBB has reinforced its role as Nigeria’s premier digital backbone. This comprehensive network integrates the nation’s six geopolitical zones, promoting digital inclusion and stimulating economic growth.
The newly completed Abuja-to-Lagos fibre optic route, passing through Minna, Bida, Mokwa, Ilorin, Ogbomoso, Oyo, and Ibadan, enhances network reliability by forming a closed ring between Lagos—the economic hub—and Abuja, the nation’s capital. This setup ensures redundancy, minimizes downtime, and delivers a world-class user experience.
Empowering Nigeria’s Digital Economy
Prof. Adeyanju underscored the broader benefits of this expansion:
“This expansion not only supports the government’s digital economy agenda but also sets the stage for meaningful collaboration with private sector organizations seeking to leverage our infrastructure. Together, we can unlock innovation and drive sustainable development across diverse sectors.”
Driving Digital Transformation
Galaxy Backbone’s focus on high-speed, secure connectivity is instrumental in empowering government institutions and businesses alike. By extending its reach to Lagos, Ibadan, and Ilorin, GBB demonstrates its unwavering commitment to driving Nigeria’s digital transformation and fostering socio-economic development.
Key Benefits of the Expansion
- Enhanced Digital Inclusion: Strengthens connectivity across Nigeria’s geopolitical zones.
- Economic Growth: Facilitates innovation and sustainable development.
- Improved Reliability: Establishes a closed network ring for greater service redundancy.
- Collaboration Opportunities: Encourages partnerships with private sector players to unlock innovation.
