Galaxy Backbone is on the verge of deploying private cloud services for government’s ministries, departments, and agencies (MDAs) to ensure security of data; and as part of the overall plan of the Nigerian government to have a central connection and data point for all its MDAs. Galaxy is a federal government-owned information technology and shared services provider – MDAs are its primary clients.
According to the Managing Director of Galaxy Backbone, Mr. Yusuf Kazaure, the service will enable MDAs to store their data securely in the cloud without hosting their data abroad. It will also give MDAs the ability to customize the compute, storage and networking components to best suit their specific IT requirements which cannot be achieved so easily in the public cloud environment.
“We are currently in the process of deploying government cloud for all MDAs that will enable them store their data securely in the cloud, without hosting their data abroad. It is going to be a private cloud that will interface with other public cloud,” said Kazaure recently in Abuja.
Kazaure informed further that so far over 40,000 email addresses under the oneGov.ng platform have been created for MDAs by Galaxy Backbone. He said: “Under the direction of the Ministry of Communication which states that all MDAs must have their unique email addresses, Galaxy Backbone has been able to create over 40,000 email addresses for MDAs.”
OneGov.ng is a single platform that connects all government MDAs. It consists of two main elements, which is ensuring that every MDA is connected to the platform and secondly, it links to government data centre. Each MDA controls their own database, but all the databases are hosted on this single platform.
