In an official statement, the bank rejected the allegations made by Dr. Agbai Eke. It clarified that the case involved unethical dealings between the plaintiff and a former employee rather than any fraudulent activity by the institution itself.
“We can affirm that the allegations of fraud in the Bank, as alluded to by Dr. Agbai Eke, are entirely unfounded and false. Our findings indicate that the matter stemmed from an unprofessional and unethical arrangement between Dr. Agbai Eke and a former FirstBank employee, utilizing a personal relationship to facilitate unauthorized transactions outside the Bank’s knowledge or involvement.”
The statement comes in response to reports by ThisDay Newspaper, Arise Television, and a circulating video concerning a court case filed against FirstBank.
FirstBank Stands by Legal Process and Law Enforcement
FirstBank emphasized that the matter is currently before the court. The bank assured stakeholders that it would allow due legal process to take its course.
“As the matter is before the Court, we will refrain from further comments to allow the Court to determine the issues dispassionately. The Bank has also reported the case to law enforcement agencies for proper investigation. The suspects have provided useful statements, and further inquiries are ongoing.”
While reaffirming its commitment to integrity, transparency, and customer protection, FirstBank assured its stakeholders of its adherence to the highest ethical and professional standards.
