Governor Lawrence Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi of Enugu state is delivering a keynote address at the ongoing 9th German – Nigerian Business Forum (GNBF). The 3-days hybrid event (onsite and online) holding in Lagos started yesterday and ends tomorrow 11 November.
The GNBF is organized by the Delegation of German Industry and Commerce in Nigeria (AHK Nigeria) in collaboration with the Nigerian–German Chamber of Commerce (NGCC) and the German-African Business Association (Afrika-Verein).
The 9th GNBF is hosting over 300 local and international participants from the German and Nigerian business circle, political and diplomatic community. The event is focusing on addressing the opportunities, challenges and recent developments in sectors that include: Start-up (especially automotive and fintech); healthcare; skills development; agribusiness; construction; finance; energy and environment.
Onsite, the Enugu state government team at the 9th include General Manager, Enugu State Technology Hub, Chidubem Anowor and S.A to the Enugu State Governor on Innovation, Science and Technology, Elvis Obi-Nwankwo.
Enugu State has aggressively pursued an ICT policy thrust fostered on digital skills development; promotion of innovation and tech entrepreneurs. The state attended the GITEX Technology Week in Dubai, UAE last month as part of Nigeria’s official delegation under the auspices of the National Information Technology Development Agency (NITDA). GITEX is the world’s second largest technology event and this year, it hosted over 200, 000 participants from more than 140 countries.
The annual GNBF brings together public and private sector operators from across Africa and Europe to engage in market information exchange, technology transfer and establishing new business networks.
Created in 2007, GNBF alternates between Nigeria and Germany and is the leading conference in Nigeria that provides a platform for networking and exchange between governments, business representatives, institutions, and associations among others from Germany and Nigeria.
In 2011, the 4th GNBF was attended by the then President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, Goodluck Jonathan, and German Chancellor, Angela Merkel, amongst several state governors, ministers and top-level private sector representatives. Participating in the GNBF has always been a focus for business delegations from Germany as it presents the opportunity to engage in B2B meetings and connect with several industry experts.

Last year, the virtual 8th GNBF was attended by ca. 190 participants from the German and Nigerian business and political community. In attendance was Vice President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, Prof. Yemi Osinbajo; Minister of Works and Housing, Babatunde Fashola; Minister of Power, Saleh Mamman; and Minister of Health, Osagie Emmanuel Ehanire; among other dignitaries.
The 2021 GNBF is featuring keynote speeches, presentations, panel discussions, and product demonstrations from high level government representatives and key industry experts. Sector focused workshops and breakout sessions are also holding to allow for in-depth conversation and/and training.
