Digital literacy is critical to Nigeria’s economic transformation and citizens must be encouraged to acquire the requisite knowledge, said Director General of the National Information Technology Development Agency (NITDA), Mallam Kashifu Inuwa Abdullahi.
Abdullahi spoke in Abuja at the recent closing ceremony of the first phase of the capacity building for members of the Digital Transformation Technical Working Groups (DT-TWGs) of the federal public institutions (FPIs). The capacity building programme lasted for four weeks. About 442 members from 126 FPIs were successfully trained.
Minister of Communications and Digital Economy, Dr. Isa Ali Ibrahim Pantami inaugurated Chairmen of DT-TWGs of FPIs last week and the subsequent digital training is to kickoff the digital literacy scheme for all FPIs.
The DT-TWGs members are to coordinate the implementation of the National Digital Economy Policy and Strategy (NDEPS), National e-Government Master Plan (NeGMP) and Digital Transformation related activities in the public sector at the federal level. DT-TWGs members are to ensure that all IT projects are designed and implemented in accordance with the provision of the Nigerian Government Enterprise Architecture (NGEA) and the Nigeria e-Government Inter-operability Framework (NeGIF).
The training covers 12 courses including: National Digital Economy Policy & Strategy (NDEPS) & Nigeria e-Government Master Plan (NeGMP);Digital Transformation: Public Sector Perspective; Government Digital Service (GDS) Innovation; GOV.NG Domain Management & Sensitization; Implementation of the Nigeria Government Enterprise Architecture (NGEA) and Nigeria e-Government Interoperability Framework (Ne-GIF).
Others are Implementation of the Guidelines for Nigerian Content Development in ICT by FPIs; IT Clearance Requirements and Processes; ICT Systems Security in the Public Sector;IT Project Management; Organizational Change Management; Government Business Processes Management, and Digitization Approach and Implementation of the Nigeria Data Protection Regulation (NDPR): and Public Sector Perspective.
According to Abdullahi, by this programme, NITDA has fulfilled the promise it made to embark on massive training to build capacity of the participants as they are the first point of contact within the public sector to ensure efficient implementation of ICT projects.
He added that public service is the engine room for the implementation of ggovernment policies and programmes and thus, the capacities of government officials to deliver on ggovernment responsibilities cannot be downplayed.
His words: “NITDA being the apex IT development and regulation Agency, our primary focus is your capabilities to deliver on the Federal Government digital economy mandates“.
The NITDA’s boss assured participants that the agency has already designated courses for CEOs and top management of FPIs to in order to achieve the vision of the federal government for an efficient public service sector.
