FirstBank, the premier financial institution in West Africa and a leader in financial inclusion services, proudly announces its 2024 Corporate Responsibility and Sustainability (CR&S) Week, set to take place from August 19 to 24. This year’s edition will emphasize the bank’s commitment to nurturing communities, reducing environmental impact, and advancing the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

The CR&S Week is a dedicated period during which employees of the FirstBank Group—including FirstBank Nigeria, FirstBank UK, and other subsidiaries across Africa—volunteer their time and resources to support initiatives aligned with the bank’s CR&S strategy.

Now in its eighth year, FirstBank’s CR&S Week is deeply rooted in the bank’s core philosophy of kindness. The initiative, branded as “Start Performing Acts of Random Kindness” (SPARK), reflects the values of compassion, civility, and charity. In 2023, the CR&S Week engaged eight countries, partnered with over 80 charities and NGOs, and positively impacted the lives of 30,000 individuals.

The 2024 CR&S Week promises to be impactful through various initiatives:

  • Tree Planting: FirstBank will plant 30,000 trees across Nigeria, contributing to its goal of planting 50,000 trees by 2025 in partnership with the Nigeria Conservation Foundation (NCF).
  • Women Empowerment: The bank will support initiatives in Jigawa and Plateau States by raising awareness, performing surgeries, and providing post-care kits for women living with Vesicovaginal Fistula (VVF).
  • Charity Visits: FirstBank will visit orphanages, IDP camps, and other charitable organizations across Nigeria, Sub-Saharan Africa, and the UK, demonstrating kindness and supporting those in need.
  • Kind Comments: Throughout the week, staff and management will share kind messages, fostering a culture of compassion and civility within the bank.

With over 130 years of history woven into the fabric of society, FirstBank’s initiatives reflect its deep care for the environment and humanity, aligning with its sustainability pillars and supporting the Green Recovery Nigeria initiative.

Folake Ani-Mumuney, Group Head of Marketing & Corporate Communications at FirstBank, stated, “At FirstBank, we are committed to creating a positive impact in the lives of our customers and the communities we serve. Our 2024 CR&S Week is a testament to this dedication, as we strive to empower communities and promote sustainable development.”

As FirstBank celebrates its Corporate Responsibility & Sustainability Week, the bank invites everyone to embrace the spirit of kindness, making a lasting impact on one another and the world around us.
