The National Identity Management Commission (NIMC) has asked Nigerians to be wary of numerous fake sites purportedly representing NIMC and intending to defraud the general public.
The NIMC will never ask anyone to upload their Bank Verification Number (BVN) BVN or National Identification Number (NIN) or any such sensitive information on any unauthorised portal.
The BVN with NIN remains a critical and strategic point of identifier. They should never be shared out without valid reasons and only to verifiable channels, the commission warned as fraudsters intensify efforts to dupe unwary Nigerians desperate to meet the NIN-SIM linkage deadline now moved to April 6, 2021.
Be alert!
- Do not pay anyone to obtain your NIN or e-ID card, they are FREE.
- Beware of fake social media accounts (Facebook, WhatsApp, Twitter, etc.) posing as official NIMC or “fan” pages asking you to make payments to them to get your NIN, NIN Slip or e-ID card for you – you data could be acquired and used for criminal activities.
- Beware of Fraudsters posing as NIMC agents
- Do not pay money to anyone offering to help you speed up the NIN enrolment process or get the National e-ID card for you. You have to enrol and collect your card, when it is ready, yourself.
