Benue State, located in North Central Nigeria, has signed a landmark agreement to achieve 80% fiber coverage across the state and establish Nigeria’s first state-owned data center, managed by Galaxy Backbone Ltd for disaster recovery.

The Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) was signed by Galaxy Backbone Ltd, Benue Digital Infrastructure Company Limited (BDIC), GAMINT Corporate Ltd, and the Benue State Government. This initiative aims to provide connectivity resources to the state’s approximately 4.3 million residents, based on the 2006 census.

The signing ceremony, attended by Deputy Governor Barrister Samuel Ode, Commissioner of ICT and Digital Economy Kwaghba Amande, and other key officials, marked a significant milestone for Benue State’s digital infrastructure development.

Galaxy Backbone Ltd’s Executive Director of Customer Centricity and Marketing, Honourable Olusegun Olulade, reaffirmed the company’s full support and readiness to facilitate this partnership.

Galaxy Backbone continues to expand services 

Galaxy Backbone, established in 2006 as a public enterprise to create a unified ICT infrastructure for government ministries, departments, and agencies, continues to expand its services across the nation, including to private-sector clients.

The company recently earned the prestigious Tier IV Certification of Constructed Facility (TCCF) for its Data Centre from Uptime Institute Professional Services, underscoring its commitment to excellence in digital infrastructure services.

Last May, the Benue State government approved the establishment, funding, and management of the BDICL as a special purpose vehicle for the state’s Public-Private Partnership with Gamint Corporation Ltd. This initiative is focused on investing in ICT and digital infrastructure services for Benue State. Executive Governor Hyacinth Iormem Alia had announced this development during the inauguration of an 8-member implementation committee for the ICT project in the state.
