Key Milestones Achieved
In alignment with the objectives of the Benue Digital Initiative, BDIC’s leadership, led by Managing Director/CEO Terwase Gbande-Hembaor, undertook strategic engagements last month in Abuja. The BDIC engaged with the Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC), Layer3, and the Digital Bridge Institute (DBI). These initiatives mark significant progress toward creating a digitally inclusive and economically vibrant society for Benue State’s population of over eight million.
Licensing Success at the NCC
BDIC successfully defended its applications for key operational licenses from the NCC, including:
- Fibre Optic License
- Internet Service Provider (ISP) License
- Microwave License
“These licenses are foundational to our mission of delivering state-of-the-art connectivity infrastructure, driving e-governance, and fostering economic growth in Benue State,” said Gbande-Hembaor.
Strategic Partnership with Layer3
BDIC also secured partnership with Layer3, a leading digital infrastructure provider, to deploy cutting-edge digital solutions in the state. This collaboration is expected to enhance job creation, and improve digital access. It will also enable transformative technologies that will serve residents and businesses alike.
Capacity Building with DBI
A landmark collaboration with the Digital Bridge Institute (DBI) will see the establishment of two study centers in Benue State dedicated to digital technology and e-governance training. These centers aim to equip public sector administrators and youth with skills needed to thrive in a digitally driven economy.
“These training centers underscore our commitment to building digital capacity and fostering innovation across sectors in Benue State,” Gbande-Hembaor added.
Commitment to Digital Transformation
BDIC reiterated its commitment to the following core pillars:
- Skills Development: Promoting digital literacy and advanced technological skills for residents.
- Job Creation: Leveraging technology to create sustainable employment opportunities.
- E-Governance: Enhancing transparency, efficiency, and service delivery through technology.
“Our ultimate objective is the digitalization of Benue’s economy to position the state as a leader in innovation and technology in the region,” Gbande-Hembaor emphasized.
Vision for the Future
The company’s efforts align with Governor Alia’s broader vision for Benue State, which prioritizes leveraging technology to drive economic growth, improve governance, and ensure that no citizen is left behind in the digital revolution.
Foundational licenses and strategic partnerships
With foundational licenses secured and strategic partnerships in place, BDIC is well on its way to transforming Benue State into a digitally empowered society. These efforts are not only advancing e-governance but also creating an ecosystem ripe for innovation, entrepreneurship, and sustainable development.
