The Association of Telecommunications Companies of Nigeria (ATCON) has lauded by the commitment of the Minister of Communications and Digital Economy, Dr. Isa Ali Ibrahim Pantami. to addressing some of the sector’s pressing challenges including the now resolved debate over high cost of Right of Way (RoW) across the country’s 36 states.
Led by its President, Ikechukwu Nnamani, the ATCON’s National Executive Council (NEC) on a visit to the minister, this week in Abuja, commended Pantami for his progressive approach at rallying policies, regulations and stakeholders across board for the continuous growth of the industry.
“This strategic courtesy visit is to demonstrate the respect that we have for you and your office as records are there to show that the development of the sector is highly paramount in your strategic plans”, said Nnamani who recently assumed office as ATCON’s President.
“Challenges that have plagued the industry for a very long time are now being addressed by you and your team. Notable among this is the progress made in the NIN, ROW, NNBP, and digitization of the economy. More recent is the groundbreaking of the National Digital Innovation and Entrepreneurship Centre in Abuja”, he added as he formally introduced the NEC’s members including Vice President Ibrahim Dikko to the minister.
Nnamani pledged ATCON’s commitment to work with the ministry to sustain the progress already made in the sector.
Pantami said the industry can only grow based on shared understanding even as he assured the umbrella body of telecom and ICT business organisations of his continuous support.
He cautioned the association not to compromise the resolution on RoW levy and expressed the willingness of the ministry to immediately intervene in areas of conflict as it concerns the RoW.
