“Twenty and Unlimited”
In a grand celebration marking its two decades of operation in Nigeria, Globacom, a multinational digital solutions company, honored 89 staff members for their remarkable 20 years of unbroken service. The event, themed “Twenty and Unlimited,” highlighted Glo’s commitment to innovation, quality service delivery, and its significant contributions to various sectors, including telecommunications, music, movies, and dance.
Recognition and Reward
The Vice Chairman of Globacom, Mrs. Bella Disu, acknowledged the awardees as individuals who played a pivotal role in the growth of the company. A total of 89 staff members were recognized and rewarded with substantial cash prizes, totaling millions, showcasing Glo’s appreciation for their dedication and contribution to the company’s success.

“We are incredibly proud of this feat, which symbolises two decades of our commitment to excellent service delivery, quality, innovation and outstanding communication strategies. This remarkable journey and the heights we have reached are all thanks to the visionary leadership and tenacity of our founder and chairman, Dr Mike Adenuga (Jnr),” said Disu at the gathering “to reward hard work and to encourage a striving for greater excellence.”
Glo’s Impact on Telecommunications
Globacom has been a trailblazer in Nigeria’s telecommunications sector, introducing revolutionary initiatives such as per-second billing (PSB) and significantly reducing the cost of acquiring SIM cards. The company’s commitment to being price-friendly and innovative is evident through its numerous pioneering services, including Blackberry services, Multimedia Messaging Service (MMS), Glo Direct, Magic Plus, Glo Fonepals, Africhat, Glo Mobile Internet, GloFleetmanager, M-Banking and Glo Mobile Office.
To its credit, before igniting the PSB revolution, “Glo had crashed the cost of acquiring SIM cards in the country from about N25,000 to just about N200 to signify how it will play in the market as an operator that will be price-friendly and also thrive on innovations.
Infrastructure Development
Glo’s impact extends beyond telecommunications, with the development of critical infrastructure like the international submarine cable, Glo 1. This cable connects West Africa directly to the United Kingdom and other global destinations, reducing the cost of internet services and earning recognition as the preferred cable system by global OTT providers.
To relay its own claims: “Glo was also the first to launch 2.5G, 3G and 4G LTE networks. It also singlehandedly built an international submarine cable, Glo 1 to connect West Africa directly to the United Kingdom and the rest of the world. It also connects 12 nations in the West African sub region, including some of them that are landlocked.
“Glo1 is credited with crashing the cost of internet services and is today the preferred cable system by global OTT providers. It connects thousands of kilometres of national fibre to all parts of Nigeria.”
Investment in Entertainment: Glo’s years of bringing glow to entertainment
The telecom giant has not only transformed the telecommunications landscape but has also reshaped the entertainment sector. Through initiatives like “Glo Ambassadorship,” Glo has supported artists in Nollywood and the music industry, contributing to the growth of Nigeria’s culture and creative industry.
Glo literally remodeled that sector with several thematic funding notably its ‘Glo Ambassadorship’ through which it has supported several artists in Nollywood and the music industry as well as helped to provide a robust foundation for Nigeria’s culture and creative industry.
The list of Glo Brand Ambassadors includes renowned figures such as Asake, Davido, Teni, Kunle Afolayan, Odunlade Adekola, Patience Ozokwor (Mama G), Funke Akindele, Timaya, Chike Ezekpeazu Osebuka, Oluwatobiloba Anidugbe aka Kizz Daniel and Chike Ezekpeazu Osebuka amongst many others.
Employee Recognition Event
To commemorate this milestone, Glo hosted a ‘Thank You’ party for its staff. The star-studded event featured performances by Kizz Daniel, Wande Coal, and Chike Ezekpeazu Osebuka. Notable personalities, including the Governor of Osun State, Ademola Adeleke; Ovation Publisher, Dele Momodu; and Nollywood stars graced the occasion. The star-studded gathering featured Ego Boyo, Ini Edo, Juliet Ibrahim, and Bolanle Ninalowo. Others are comedian Broda Shaggy, and fashion icon, Mai Atafo.
Employee Recognition Awards – An evening of rewards from the home-front
The event also included the Mr. and Miss Glo pageants, recognizing employees for their outstanding contributions. Cash prizes, totaling millions, were awarded to winners and runners-up, demonstrating Glo’s commitment to appreciating and motivating its workforce.
Ifoghale Ashaka emerged as Mr. Glo while the duo of Hakeem Obayomi and Olalekan Agbaje trailed behind as first and second runners-up. Mr. Glo received N2million, while N1million and N750, 000 went to the first and second runners-up respectively. Gift Okafor emerged as Miss Glo and won N2milion. Favour Akinbayo won N1million as first runner-up while Faith Chika Obi took away N750,000 as second runner-up. The best dressed male and female also won N500,000 each.
