The Joint Action Committee (JAC) of the Non-Academic Staff Union of Educational and Associated Institutions (NASU) and the Senior Staff of Nigerian Universities (SSANU) have proposed the University Peculiar Payroll Payment System (U3PS) while ASUU, which has been on strike since February 15, has asked that the IPPIS be replaced with the University Transparency and Accountability Solution (UTAS) for salary payment in the university system.
President Muhammadu Buhari has directed the NITDA to run further integrity tests on all three payment platforms.
University workers have complained that the IPPIS does not effectively reflect the peculiar remuneration process of the academic community while JAC also complained that IPPIS was shortchanging non-academic staff in their salary payment.
According to ASUU, the NITDA has conducted integrity test twice on UTAS and has positively ranked it while advising on the need to rejig some features of the payment platform.
Meanwhile, the Federal Government has assured that it was making efforts to implement the Consequential Adjustment/ minimum wage arrears and get the striking university workers paid this week as part of te engagement process to get the universities re-opened.
ASUU has argued that the IPPIS does not adequately reflect the peculiarities in the Nigerian university system which includes employees’ salaries, bonuses, deductions, net pay, generation of pay-advice and other financial reports using accounting best practices.
President Buhari’s new directive is intended to accelerate a common meeting ground with the striking workers and end months of frustrations for students and parents nationwide.
