The European Union (EU) is now accepting applications for the 2022 Erasmus+ scholarship programme – the Erasmus Mundus Joint Master Degree.
An Erasmus Mundus Joint Master Degree, is a prestigious, integrated, international study programme, jointly delivered by an international consortium of higher education institutions. Erasmus Mundus Joint Master Degree Programmes award EU-funded scholarships to the best student candidates applying under annual selection rounds.
Study must take place in at least two of the Programme countries. Part of the studies can also take place in a Partner countries if there is a partner-country institution involved.
The EU is encouraging young Nigerians and higher education centres in the country to leverage the opportunities for quality higher education and skill development outside the country.

Benefits of Erasmus+
The Erasmus+, the EU’s flagship programme for education, skill development and sport, allows beneficiaries to study in some of the most prestigious universities within and outside Europe.
in 2021, 2,756 students were awarded the Erasmus+ scholarship to participate in 145 Erasmus Mundus Joint Master Degree programmes. The 2,756 scholarship-winners came from 141 different countries with Indonesia and the Philippines ranking in the top 15 countries.

Nigeria is among the top six countries. Others are India, Pakistan, Brazil, Bangladesh, and Mexico.
Since the Erasmus+ started in 2004, about 531 Nigerians have benefited. In 2020, about 90 young Nigerians were awarded the Erasmus+scholarship.
According to the EU, the Erasmus+ is a means of strengthening legal and regular migration of citizens of eligible countries including Nigerians to Europe allowing them to acquire master’s degree in different fields.
To study abroad with Erasmus+, candidates must be registered in a higher education institution and enrolled in studies leading to a recognised degree or tertiary-level qualification.
Conditions to APPLY
Students at Master’s level worldwide can apply.
You must have obtained a first higher education degree or demonstrate a recognised equivalent level of learning, according to national legislation and practices, in the degree awarding countries.
If you have already received an EMJMD or an Erasmus Mundus Master Course/Joint Doctorate scholarship, you are not eligible for an additional EMJMD scholarship. You cannot benefit from another EU-funded scholarship scheme while you are receiving an EMJMD scholarship.
Academic outcome
The successful completion of the study programme will lead to the award of either a joint degree (i.e. one single degree certificate issued on behalf of at least two higher education institutions of the EMJMD consortium) or multiple degrees (i.e. at least two degree certificates issued by two higher education institutions of the consortium).
To find out whether an EMJMD will be recognised in a given country, contact the appropriate authorities concerned and provide them with the official name of the course.
Financial support
To receive Erasmus+ financial support, you must first be admitted onto the course by the organising consortium and then be selected for an EMJMD scholarship.
The EMJMD scholarship covers your participation costs (including the tuition fees, library and laboratory costs, full insurance coverage and any other mandatory costs related to your participation in the Master); it represents a contribution to your travel and installation costs and includes a monthly subsistence allowance for the entire duration of the study programme.
The total amount of the scholarship varies according to the duration of your course and your nationality (non-EU students receive larger scholarships).
