The Nigeria Police Force National Cybercrime Center (NPF-NCCC) has arrested Bristol Isaac Tamunobifiri.
Tamunobifiri is an Anonymous hacker who impersonated the Inspector General of Police (IGP) and leaked classified documents. The arrest, made by detectives in Port Harcourt, is part of ongoing efforts to safeguard national security and maintain public order, according to the IGP’s office.

The hacker was apprehended at a hotel where he attempted to resist arrest by locking himself in a room and destroying evidence, including smashing his phone and flushing it down the toilet. He suspect claimed to have forgotten his phone’s password. But he was taken into custody for alleged criminal conspiracy, violating the Official Secrets Act, sedition, fraud, and tax evasion.
The investigation was initiated after a complaint by the Office of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation (OSGF). This was triggered by the online publication of a restricted national security document by an anonymous blogger using the Twitter handle @pidomnigeria. This led to the identification of Tamunobifiri and two accomplices, Michael Temidayo Alade and David Hundeyin.
Hacker posted accessed and posted police-restricted data
Further investigations revealed that Tamunobifiri had accessed and posted police-restricted data, including directives from the IGP’s office. He also leaked sensitive information to destabilize Nigeria’s security network. A forensic analysis of his crypto wallet transactions uncovered evidence of funds raised anonymously to support cyberterrorism and related crimes.
Inspector General of Police Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun reaffirmed the Force’s commitment to ensuring national stability and taking swift action against threats. The suspect has been charged to court and remains in custody. Investigations are ongoing to uncover the full extent of the conspiracy, according to Force Public Relations Officer ACP Olumuyiwa Adejobi.
