Konn3ct, Africa’s first application for video conferences and webinars developed by Newwaves Ecosystems, will be powering the first ever Nigeria Teen Cyber Festival: ngTeenCyberFest 2021.

The event, a mix of physical and virtual meetings, is holding next Thursday, May 27 in Jos, capital city of Plateau state, central Nigeria as part of the International Children’s Day. Konn3ct joins Zinox Technologies as Digital Partner.

“We are glad to support this event and enhance the web conferencing experience for the participants with the exciting features unique to Konn3ct,” said Chief Enabling Officer at Newwaves Ecosystem Ltd, Femi Williams.

More than four hundred participants will be leveraging the Konn3ct solution in the one-day event featuring speakers from government, private sector, technology and innovation hubs, NGOs and education institutions.

Over 40 schools are participating and providing the rallying ground for series of fire chats/discussions led by young people focused on: “Can the Internet Make Better Teens; Make Things Better for Teens?  Opportunities and challenges in cyberspace.”

Expected to lead deliberations on cyberspace and young people from the government’s perspectives are the Nigerian Communications Commission, (NCC), National Information Technology Development Agency (NITDA), Nigerian Communications Satellite (NIGCOMSAT) Limited, and National Automotive Design and Development Council (NADDC).

The main theme for ngTeenCyberFest 2021 is ‘Harnessing the Power of Young People Online in the Digital Age.’

The event, already supported by UNESCO, the Africa Digital Economy Forum (ADEF) and the Plateau state government through the Plateau State ICT Deployment Agency (PICTDA), is focusing on opportunities and challenges in cyberspace for Nigeria’s most active population segment on the internet.

“Support for ngTeenCyberFest 2021 is awesome and underscores the increasing need to leverage local content and look inward for solutions to advance the country,” said Director General of PICTDA, Daser David. PICTDA, one of the sponsors of event, is the IT regulatory and development agency in Plateau state.

The ngTeenCyberFest 2021 “is about young people and their capacity to determine the digital destiny of Nigeria. We are pulling together young innovative Nigerians from home and in the diasporas to form an Idea & Innovation Xchange to deliver  digital pathways on Nigeria of tomorrow,” said CEO/Co-Founder CC-Pro, Delmwa Gogwim.

Last week in LAGOS ADEF’s President Olusola Teniola said the Forum’s endorsement for ngTeenCyberFest 2021 underscores part of its objectives to drive awareness for digital economy among the continent’s young population who not only constitute over 60% of Africa\s demography but carry the greatest responsibility of driving the continent’s digital future.

“Africa’s steady transition to technology-enabled economies is not in doubt. What must not also be in doubt is the capacity of its young population to drive and sustain this transition for common good of everyone. Raising awareness targeting to improve capacity or reskilling, investments, policies and regulations from bottom up of the population should be encouraged and fostered as part of the drive for Africa’s shift to digitalizing its economy,” said Teniola.

The first Nigerian Teen Cyber Festival is organised by the Child Cyber Protection organization (CC-Pro) and partners.
