The Computer Professionals Registration Council of Nigeria (CPN) has announced 8th of this month in Abuja for the 15th edition of its yearly gathering of IT practitioners in Nigeria and diaspora. Tagged the IT Professional Assembly, this year’s theme is focusing on: “Harnessing Digital Technologies for Social and Economic Recovery.”
President/Chairman-in-Council of the CPN, Dr Charles Uwadia, said the 2021 IT Assembly will focus on opportunities and challenges in the IT and innovation ecosystem for sustaining post pandemic economic growth.
While addressing the media virtually, Uwadia announced that the CPN will be inducting about 300 new members into the IT profession.
Uwadia described the IT Professionals Assembly as the flagship of all IT professional programmes in Nigeria. The gathering is an exclusive networking event for senior IT professionals including decision-makers, consultants, entrepreneurs, startups, researchers and teachers, as well as administrators among others.
By law, the CPN is mandated to control and supervise the IT profession in the country, among other related responsibilities.
2021 Assembly conversations on using ICT to boost economy
The 2021 IT General Council Assembly will have conversations around how Nigeria could leverage ICT resource to boost its economy and regain its bounce in social development, said Uwadia.
His words: “Digital technologies have proven beyond measure their ability to achieve efficiency during the pandemic period, playing an indispensable role in sustaining social and economic activities.
“Drawing on global, regional and national experiences, the 2021 IT General Assembly will highlight the opportunities and challenges of building more innovations to boost our nation’s economy.
“We predict that in the years to come, Nigeria will be a nation that has fully harnessed the potential of technology to grow our economy and improve the lives of our people.”
This year’s event will holding in physical space with strict health protocols. The 2020 IT Professional Assembly was virtual as result of the COVID-19 pandemic.
